BOUJAD, 3'10" x 8'4"
Boujad are handwoven pile carpets from a small region in Haouz between the Middle Atlas and the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Handmade by Berber women who use bold hues - mostly pinks - and striking symbols to weave wildly beautiful rugs. Each one-of-a-kind piece tells a story, making references to fertility, rural life, marriage, spiritual beliefs and life.
Vintage Moroccan carpets have a maximum width of 7 feet. Most vintage rugs currently on the market have a maximum width range of 6 to 6.5 feet. If you are looking for a larger rug - in the 8 x 10 feet range - this will be a new, custom-made carpet with a hybrid of tribal and contemporary designs.
